Camtasia Rules & Requirements

While playing PRO Games on Camtasia in Tournaments, Matches, or any other PRO event, the following Camtasia Rules MUST be obeyed:
  1. The FULL SCREEN must always be recorded, including the full taskbar and all windows.
  2. The taskbar must be visible throughout the game. Using the auto-hide function on the taskbar is not acceptable during PRO Camtasia Games.
  3. Timestamp must be visible throughout the game.
  4. The Mouse Cursor must be visible throughout the game.
  5. Pausing is completely forbidden during the game. If evidence is discovered that the tape was paused during the game, the winner will be disqualified.
  6. All stick movements must be seen, so make sure Camtasia begins recording before you begin to shoot.
  7. If your opponent requests the tape, you should send immediately. If there is a problem with sending the tape, you have thirty (30) minutes after a TD or Admin request to send the tape to the TD or Admin. Note that the time limit only applies after a TD or Admin request the tape, not after the opponent requests. It is the opponent's responsibility to speak to a TD or Admin if a tape was not received.

Camtasia Setup

Use the following steps to setup Camtasia so that is most convenient for recording and sending while still following

PRO Camtasia Rules

  1. Open Camtasia Studio and click "Record the Screen". This will open the Camtasia Recorder.

  1. Click Capture, then Wizard.

  2. Select "Entire Screen", then click Next. Make sure that all boxes are unchecked, then click Next once again.

  1. Make sure that "Disable display acceleration during capture" is checked. Click Finish.

  1. On the Camtasia Recorder, click Effects, then Options.

  1. Under the Annotation tab, check the "Time/Date" box and UNcheck "Show Stamp For" box, Then click OK.

  • Or..Cam 2, 3, 4 and 5..
    <

    1. Click Effects, Annotation, and make sure that "Add System Stamp" is checked.

Adjust Camtasia Settings for Optimized Performance (Highly Recommended):

    1. On the Camtasia Recorder, click Tools, then Options.

    2. Under the General Tab, check "Save as AVI".

    3. Under the General Tab, click "File name options". Check Automatic File Name and type YOUR name followed by a hyphen (-) in the prefix field (e.g. DJTipper-). Click OK.

    4. Under the Streams Tab, uncheck "Auto configure" and enter "1" in the frames/sec field.

    5. Under the Capture Tab, make sure that only the following boxes are checked (the rest should be unchecked):
      • Minimize before starting capture

      • Hide capture rectangle

      • Round frame size to a 4 pixel boundary

      • Disable display acceleration during capture

    6. Click OK.

When wishing to record your game, open the Camtasia Recorder, then press F9 on your keyboard. This will begin the recording. If the Camtasia icon in your taskbar is blinking, it signifies that it is recording. Once the eight ball has been potted, press F10 on your keyboard. This will stop the recording and bring the Camtasia Recorder back to the front of the screen.

If the settings for optimizing performance (mentioned above) were not followed, you must choose where to save the tape. This is the location from which you email the tape to your opponent, TD, or Admin. If the above setting were followed, then the tape will be automatically saved when the recording is stopped. Usually, the tape is automatically saved to the "Camtasia Studio" folder under "My Documents". If the tape is not there, open the Camtasia Recorder, click Tools, then Options; under the General Tab, click "File name options". The Output Folder is the location to which your tapes are automatically saved.

Your tape should look similar to this:

Note that the timestamp in the lower left corner is shown, as well as the full screen. This is the requirement for all PRO Camtasia Tapes. In any case where a Camtasia situation arises that is not covered in the rules or the guide, the TD or Admin will have the final decision.
